What's Your Groove? Beat Tracking in Music Signal Processing

Wrote this for ECE355, Signal Analysis & Digital Systems. I had this big curiosity about connections between music and engineering. Music has consumed my entire life, way before I even started thinking about studying engineering. This "independent study module" presented itself as the perfect opportunity to explore an intersection between the two.

I ask: What does beat tracking actually mean, why is it a harder problem than it sounds (for a computer)?
